Prior to this, the police station had received specific information regarding an altercation between two groups in the area. At that time, locals heard two adult men allegedly speaking to each other in Bangla. This raised suspicion among the residents, who subsequently informed about the matter to police.
Taking action over the inputs, a police team soon arrived at the spot. Among those involved in the special team were Head Constable Puneet, Head Constable Pankaj, Head Constable Vinit, Constable Vivek and Constable/DHG Kishor Pashi. They worked under the supervision of Inspector Rajeev Shah, SHO/Mukherjee Nagar, and the overall supervision of Suresh Chander, ACP/Model Town, the report stated.
The team was ordered to verify the identity and residential status of the individuals.
Later on, the team apprehended two suspects, who revealed that they were residing in a rented accomodation in Indira Vikas Colony, Mukherjee Nagar, along with three other associates – with all of them being Bangladeshi nationals.
Investigation into the matter revealed that these five people came to Delhi on different dates by air from Bangladesh. The police further informed that they were looking forward to travel to Greece in search of employment.
Since December last year, they allegedly remained in Delhi and waited for interview calls from Greece even after the expiry of their visas.
They have been identified as Rahmat Ullah, 23, Mohd. Ashraful, 23, Salman Bhuiyan, 25, Md. Rashel, 37, and Md. Rahim Mia, 33.
All the five persons are said to be residents of Parmandapur, Sarail, Aurail-3430 in Bangladesh’s Brahmanbaria district.
Police officials said that these individuals initially stayed at hotels across Delhi after coming to India from Bangladesh. After the expiry of their visas, they are believed to have shifted to a rented accomodation in Indira Vikas Colony in Mukherjee Nagar. In this, they were helped by an associate, named Ganpati Biswas, who is a resident of Malda Town in West Bengal.
Efforts are being made to trace and apprehend Ganpati Biswas.
